In contrast to most previously reported Ni metal catalysts that resulted in severe hydrogen evolution during CO 2 conversion, the Ni particle catalyst here presents an unprecedented CO faradaic efficiency of approximately 94% at an overpotential of 0.59 V, even comparable to that of the best single Ni sites. Significantly, a CO 2 methanation rate of 100 mmol g Ni−1 h −1 is achieved with over 90% selectivity when nickel resides specifically between the sheets of siloxene. The single-Ni-atom catalyst exhibits high intrinsic CO 2 reduction activity, reaching a specific current of 350 A g catalyst−1 and turnover frequency of 14,800 h −1 at a mild overpotential of Ni/CeO 2 is successfully prepared by plasma decomposition of nickel precursor.
